| Three Sisters Backcountry operates the facilities for the Oregon Avalanche Institute. Located near Sisters, Oregon, our institute is Oregon’s original American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) course provider. Our courses follow the American Avalanche Association (AAA) guidelines and meet the standards of the American Mountain Guides Association. OAI is Oregon’s local, professional avalanche training institute.
At the Oregon Avalanche Institute we believe strongly that national standardization in avalanche course curriculum leads to a culture of improved winter safety for all users. The American Institute For Avalanche Research And Education (AIARE) standardized curriculum and instructor trainings in partnership with the American Avalanche Association guidelines provides this needed standardization. This combination sets the highest standard in avalanche safety training available in the US today. All OAI Level I. and Level II. courses use the most current AIARE curriculum and are lead by qualified AIARE Course Leaders.
Our regularly scheduled courses are based at our Field Office at Upper Three Creeks Sno-Park. This location provides easy transitions between classroom and field sessions. Course tuition includes classroom/field instruction and all required course texts.
We also offer a Hut Based Course from our Three Creeks Lake Hut for an even richer learning experience in the backcountry.

| The American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) |
 |
AIARE has developed and continues to develop standardized curriculum for a complete program of avalanche courses that meets the needs of students at all levels, from recreational to professional and from novice to advanced. AIARE has created and continue to create course materials for instructors and students to maximize the effectiveness of both teachers and learners. AIARE requires instructors to meet pre-requisites and attend training sessions before they are allowed access to AIARE materials and curriculum. In addition, instructors are required to sign an agreement stating they will abide by the guidelines established by AIARE, and they are required to attend regular refreshers to maintain and improve their avalanche knowledge, instructional skills, and their understanding of the evolving AIARE curriculum and materials. AIARE is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. |
